Edwardian Renovation

SCROLL TO DISCOVER

Modern family living meets Edwardian character

Dating back to the early 1900s, this Edwardian home is a striking stone-built property that has been sensitively extended and reconfigured to suit the needs of a growing young family. The owners approached MWB Residence to reimagine the layout and replace a dated conservatory with a high-spec, open-plan kitchen-living-dining space.

MWB Architecture led the design and planning phases, with a clear objective: to honour the heritage of the home while delivering a clean, modern space full of natural light. Internally, the layout was reworked to create more practical, family-friendly living zones, while externally, the new single-storey extension connects beautifully to the rear garden.

Design Highlights

To ensure the new addition didn’t overshadow the existing structure, the extension was carefully positioned to maximise daylight. A full rear elevation of Crittall-style glazing, a feature rooflight, and a structural oak frame brought architectural distinction while supporting a new first-floor balcony. A covered patio and folding internal doors created a seamless indoor-outdoor flow, linking the new kitchen hub to a snug formed from the previous kitchen.

Throughout the build, traditional materials, such as English oak, natural stone, and breathable insulation, were used to complement the original house and improve energy performance.

Sustainability & Legacy

Anderton House now offers the best of both worlds: a sociable, open-plan family space alongside quieter, characterful rooms with traditional features. The renovation balances Edwardian charm with 21st-century comfort and style.
