A bespoke family home inspired by the rural landscape

Working closely with a private self-build client, we designed a luxurious, contemporary single-storey family home of approximately 2,500 sq ft. Set on a previously developed plot, the project required a sensitive and strategic approach to planning. By utilising the recently amended Green Belt planning policies, we successfully secured permission for a truly bespoke one-off dwelling that maximises its setting and enhances the surrounding landscape.

The four-bedroom home is carefully arranged to create seamless front-to-back connections, with generous living spaces opening directly onto garden areas. Expansive glazing frames views throughout, offering a strong relationship with the outdoors and bringing natural light deep into the interior.

Architecturally, the design takes inspiration from the rural context. A series of striking vaulted forms, linked by refined flat-roofed elements, come together to create a modern cluster reminiscent of traditional agricultural buildings. The external material palette combines locally influenced natural stone with contemporary standing-seam zinc cladding and floor-to-ceiling glass, resulting in a home that feels both grounded and distinctly modern.

The outcome is a unique, design-led family dwelling that blends craftsmanship, sustainability, and bold architectural expression.
